Our campground was built upon a vision from John Simoneau to have a family run business that would serve as a complement to the local community. As an avid KOA camper at the time, John felt a KOA campground would be the perfect match. Together, he and a group of investors funded and built the park after about 5 years of struggles in court to get the necessary permits to open. The Placerville KOA Kampground officially opened in 1992. Whether it be locals needing a space for family visitors, tourism, or a quick local family getaway; The park served as a great asset to the community for around 30 years thereafter.
The park was sold to Boa Vida RV Parks and Resorts in late 2021 after a 5-year streak of winning KOA’s highest awards offered in Guest Service and Satisfaction. In 2023, the new owners disfranchised from the KOA system and the new Placerville RV Resort and Campground brand was born. Designed to push family experiences and guest satisfaction to all new heights. Rather than paying KOA’s franchise fees, those funds are now available to renovate the resort and add more family activities to create lasting memories!
If you enjoyed John and the Simoneau family, you won’t have to go far to see them. John’s son Jay has continued to serve as the General Manager of the Park. John’s daughter Dawn serves as a manager and their kids can be found helping around the campground daily. Boa Vida RV Parks and Resorts embraces the family atmosphere starting with the management of operations all the way down to the numerous generations of families who have embedded the park into their family’s history.
